Some
observations on the Celestine Prophecy as it applies
to my current travels. This prophecy seems to be the principle field of
research of my Great Uncle Ter in his final years.
The depth of truth within the full prophecy and the extent to which Uncle Ter’s inquiry has reached is yet to be realised. However,
the base principles were espoused to me by Charlene de Courtney, Celestine
Sister and a student of his early investigation.
It
seems that after the disappearance of my great aunt, his sister, Ter searched the stars for answers. This
being in line with his monastic calling. During this time he made
discoveries which could advance knowledge of the nature of Fate, discoveries he
referred to as the Celestine Prophecy. He further postulated that this thought
framework would be revealed in nine insights that could only be perceived in
hindsight.
Possibly
this is why he settled on the curious term Prophecy for this, from a position
at the start it would seem that this nested structure of comprehension is more
akin to a Philosophy than Prophecy. It can be speculated that, as an
investigator distinguishes each insight by looking back, an arrangement by Fate
can be realised, and thus the conclusion that it is Prophecy.
This
reflects on an important multidirectional nature of the Fate rune. The shape of
this rune is to point in all directions, not only forward, but back, and also
tracing the nature of influence through multiple pathways. Multiple Fates can
be joined together in a tessellating pattern, frequently referred to as the Net
of Fate, or Arachna’s Weave. Ter’s
initial conjecture would be, in most cases, that when one observes past events
from a future time your passage across the web was predetermined.
With
this in mind it would seem appropriate to consider the first insight defined by
Sister Charlene. This stipulates that all things animals and people are all
connected, synchronised as it were. Synchronicity should be a simple statement
as at any point all are indeed linked by being at the same point in time, each
moving in union, from one grain of time to the next, all in perfect step, all
linked by the Time rune. Further all races are connected in the Man rune, all
animals by that of the Beast, trees and flowers by Plant, and so forth. Above
the runes of form all living things are connected by Life.
Yet
the Celestine Prophecy would seem to hint at a deeper connection than that,
because of course all things are connected by Fate. In further defining the
connection between all beings, Charlene proposed that the linking factor was a
great consciousness.
This
dives into a matter of theoretical dispute between Runic
scholars into the awareness of Runes. For my own part I must admit that I
adhere to the notion of distant runic divinity, runes are of refined powers
similar in nature to gods. Just as the Gods sprang from their forebears such as
Aether, or Lux, so they also spring from the Runes. It follows that if suitable
connections could be made through ritual, worship could be offered.
However,
it is also probable that these entities would be too pure, too elemental, to be interacted with, as all few foolhardy
attempts that I have read of have resulted in destruction or insanity.
Nevertheless, I can therefore quite easily accept that all beings are connected
by Fate and that Fate could be recognised as a great consciousness.
I
must at this point highlight that, whilst Fate holds all things in this way, it
is conjectured that it is subject to the action of heroes. Individuals of power
can, and do, struggle against the net cast about them, tugging at the weft of
the weave, and distorting the cloth. This concept assumes that great heroes,
such as Blueface or Moonbeak,
found ways to rip apart the Net of Fate, changing the direction of their
followers and allowing themselves to ascend to
Godhood.
In
the same vein, although lesser heroes cannot rent the fabric, they can deform
it. Despite Fate being hooked into the world, the daily action of minor heroes,
it would seem, is what makes future prediction so difficult.
From
this it is possible to hypothesise that, by looking back across the past, once
the ripples of heroic action have stilled, it is easier to observe the action
of Fate. This willingness and ability to wrestle with the strands of the Net
makes heroes valuable to Gods beyond their ability to act within Time. It has
been suggested that the world has been fated for destruction on many occasions
within Time, even to the point of having its whole surface scoured by Dragonfire, but this has been deflected by the intervention
of heroes.
Truly,
I have digressed from my purpose to look at the strange nature of the Celestine
Prophecy as it impacts on my current endeavour. This was brought to my close
attention when considering the crimson gem that has come into our possession. I
must thank Master Garon for his contribution to this
insight, for had he not asked for the stone it’s resonance with Fate would not
have been so clearly highlighted.
That
we found this gemstone seemed at time to be happenchance. It was we, who are
already connected to Uncle Ter and the Prophecy, who
found it, not any other travellers. Yet it is exactly this stone that Garon’s, apparently vampiric,
mistress sent agents to recover. A mistress who, in turn, has
had interaction with Uncle Ter regarding the loan of
some books.
It
is suggested that there is a primary locus of trueself,
a perception that heroes develop, that the world does actually revolve around them.
That my uncle borrowed the books only so that the syndicate’s attention would
be drawn to our party and the bloodstone sensed – for it must have been sensed,
or foretold, as since its recovery no other than a party member has seen it.
If
Raoul had not climbed down the cliff, would the primary locus of trueself have caused us to find the stone by the roadside
or under a pillow? Was finding the stone predestined, as looking backwards in
time now it seems to be?
Fortunately,
having been graciously allowed to study this rock further, there is now
opportunity for additional observations of coincidences, that
in turn may cast more light on my understanding of Fate.
